About the role
The Manager leads a multi-disciplinary team of technical experts and principals to provide specialist advice, including urban design, integrated water management, drainage and water engineering and Aboriginal cultural heritage, to support the delivery of spatial planning projects. The role drives consistent technical approaches, informs and influences spatial planning and infrastructure plans, standards, and policies, and ensures effective engagement with agencies, departments, and stakeholders to achieve strategic land development and integrated growth outcomes across all development settings.

Position accountabilities
DTP is seeking an experienced leader to manage a multi-disciplinary technical team delivering specialist input into spatial planning programs and projects. The role integrates expertise across urban design, integrated water management, drainage and water engineering, and Aboriginal cultural heritage and values to support high-quality, consistent planning outcomes.
You will provide authoritative technical advice to inform policy, regulatory development and major planning initiatives, while leading the continuous improvement of technical approaches, standards and work practices across the Spatial Planning division. Working closely across DTP and government, you will ensure specialist input supports strategic land use, infrastructure planning and integrated growth outcomes.
A key focus of the role is building strong partnerships with government agencies, local councils, industry and Registered Aboriginal Parties. Through effective collaboration and influence, you will support the development and implementation of spatial planning and infrastructure plans, standards and processes aligned to Victoria’s growth priorities.
The role requires strong leadership and organisational capability, including managing competing priorities and resources across complex programs of work. You will deliver high-quality analysis, briefings, reports and presentations to senior decision makers, and foster a high-performing team environment that values professionalism, innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and experience
Mandatory
Significant experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
Significant experience balancing competing interests of multiple stakeholders.
Desirable
A tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in civil or water engineering.
Significant experience managing complex stakeholder environments in in local or State Government settings.
