About the Department
The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Division
School Performance Division compromises two interrelated branches: School Performance Branch and Priority Programs Branch. Both branches leverage strong partnerships with the regional workforce in the delivery of their work.
School Performance Branch
The School Performance Branch leads statewide coordination of frameworks and initiatives for improving the performance of government schools. This includes overseeing the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes 2.0 and associated processes including School Strategic Plans, Annual Implementations Plans and School Annual Reporting and School Reviews. It also includes oversight of tailored support for schools, through the Intensive School Support initiative.
Priority Programs Branch
The Priority Programs Branch leads initiatives that support improved student performance and outcomes for students who need additional support in literacy and numeracy and high-ability students. This includes the Literacy and Numeracy Early Intervention Program, Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support, the Student Excellence Program, Area Principal Forums, School Networks, Professional Learning Communities and a range of other targeted programs.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director Priority Program Branch the ongoing role will have responsibilities for leading the Targeted Programs Unit through recruitment, performance management, staff development, and setting direction.
They will lead and drive the implementation and monitoring of projects, including the Student Excellence Program, Year 9 Selective Entry admissions process and Victorian Maths camp, through effective planning and risk management. Additionally, this role includes

Success in this role requires flexibility, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
The role is based centrally at 200 Vic Parade in the city; however, flexible working arrangements are available. This is a full-time, fixed-term role until 30 June 2028.
