About the Business Unit:
Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination (PRVC) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VSSR is responsible for the delivery and reform of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of the justice system.
VSSR delivers the Victims of Crime Helpline, Victims Register, Victims Assistance Program (VAP), Restorative Justice for Victims of Crime, the Victorian Government's participation in the National Redress Scheme, the Historical Forced Adoption Scheme (HFA Scheme) and the restorative engagement of the redress scheme for Victoria Police employees.
In addition to providing direct services to victims of crime, VSSR leads the development and implementation of victim-related policy and program innovation within DJCS and across government. This includes working closely with other areas of DJCS, Justice entities, other government departments and external stakeholders.
About the Role:
The Manager, Restorative Engagement will lead a new team to be established in 2026 to deliver the restorative engagement/apology component of the HFA Scheme. The HFA Scheme commenced in 2024, delivering financial redress and support to the many mothers who continue to live with the serious, complex and ongoing effects of their experience of forced separation.
The Manager will lead the team delivering the restorative engagement/ apology component of the HFA Scheme. They will initially work closely with the VSSR Design and Innovation Projects team to establish services and develop the strategic framework to deliver high quality trauma-informed services.
Once services commence, the Manager will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of service delivery - strategically leading, mentoring and coaching staff, liaising with stakeholders, identifying risks and developing response strategies and creating a culture of inclusion and safety across the service.
The Manager will work collaboratively with the leadership team in Victim Services Innovation in Criminal Justice to ensure consistency, cohesion and continuous improvement across the suite of restorative services delivered by the Branch.
The role suits an experienced and dynamic manager who is strategic and a creative thinker with proficient organisational and planning skills who enjoys leading an experienced team in a sensitive and complex environment. The role also requires dealing with material that can be challenging and distressing and will best suit a candidate who is resilient and empathetic.
