The opportunity
The Manager, Economic Development will play a key role in shaping Victoria's Renewable Energy Zones (REZs), designing and delivering economic development initiatives that support the Victorian Transmission Plan and drive long-term regional growth. Reporting to the Senior Manager – REZ Economic Development, this role works closely with government and industry partners to identify and embed economic opportunities linked to renewable energy and transmission infrastructure. You will provide clear, strategic advice, prepare high-quality briefings, and help translate policy into real outcomes for regional Victoria. Success in this role requires strong leadership, sound judgement, resilience, and a genuine commitment to achieving positive economic and community outcomes.
What you will deliver
- Lead rigorous economic analysis and modelling to identify and maximise regional economic opportunities arising from Renewable Energy Zones (REZs)
- Design and deliver Victorian REZ economic development strategies focused on regional growth, community outcomes and social licence
- Provide economic inputs and datasets into the Victorian Transmission Plan, ensuring regional development and community acceptance are embedded in planning decisions
- Establish and manage cross-government, industry and executive-level governance and reference groups, including oversight of REZ Community Energy Funds
- Oversee complex economic development programs and projects, including risk and issue management, and provide high-quality advice to Ministers and senior executives
What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification in economics or a related quantitative discipline
- Experience developing economic development strategies, ideally within decarbonisation, net zero or renewable energy contexts
- Strong ability to translate complex technical information into clear advice and briefings for senior stakeholders
- Proven experience delivering outcomes in complex policy, regulatory or technical environments across government and industry
