The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing. It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation. Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now be a part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months. The OSBS is the main source of technical expertise for industry and practitioners in Victoria. From February 2024, the Building Legislation Amendment Act 2023 established the State Building Surveyor as a statutory appointment with a range of additional functions and powers to strengthen its significance and effectiveness.
To strengthen the function of the BPC and support the increased leadership team a new opportunity has come up for Manager, Council Support.
Reporting directly to the Head of Building, Manager Council Support, provides expert technical advice in the delivery of State Building Surveyor functions, with a focus on delivery of providing advice and support to Council's and Municipal Building Surveyors on the performance of their building control functions. This role leverages extensive subject matter expertise to deliver a range of activities to support Council's in the assessment of buildings against safety and compliance standards, issuing building notices and orders, managing audit and rectification processes for complex buildings, and providing authoritative technical advice and stakeholder support. Additionally, this role will lead the functions of issuing occupancy permits for prescribed temporary structures and places of public entertainment.
To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate:
You will combine technical building surveying expertise with strategic oversight to enhance council capabilities and ensure community safety. Leading an expert technical team to foster collaboration between the Office of the State Building Surveyor and local councils to enhance building safety and compliance standards.
