What You'll Do
As Manager Arboriculture, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for arboricultural services across both Melbourne and Cranbourne Gardens, ensuring the long-term health, sustainability and presentation of one of Australia's most significant living tree collections. Leading a team of arboriculture professionals, you will foster a culture of safety, excellence and continuous improvement while providing expert technical guidance across the organisation. Working closely with horticulture, plant science, collections, landscape and infrastructure teams, you will develop and deliver contemporary arboriculture strategies, management plans and programs that support conservation, climate resilience and organisational priorities. You will oversee the stewardship of RBGV's tree assets through proactive risk management, asset planning, data-driven decision-making and the implementation of industry-leading standards and practices. As a key member of the Strategic Leadership Team, you will contribute to organisational planning, budgeting and resource allocation, while ensuring arboricultural considerations are embedded across capital projects, major events, visitor experiences and long-term master planning initiatives. You will also represent RBGV as a trusted subject matter expert, building strong relationships with contractors, consultants and industry networks to drive innovation and achieve outstanding outcomes for our landscapes and living collections.
What You'll Bring
You will bring extensive arboriculture experience, supported by a Diploma or equivalent qualification in Arboriculture, and a proven ability to lead teams, programs and projects within complex landscape, public garden or commercial arboriculture environments. With strong technical expertise across tree management, risk management and tree health, you will have experience implementing best-practice systems, managing contractors and budgets, and driving continuous improvement. Equally comfortable operating strategically and hands-on, you will be a collaborative leader with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, capable of providing trusted advice, influencing outcomes and building strong professional relationships. Your forward-thinking approach, industry credibility and commitment to safety, sustainability and conservation will enable you to successfully lead the long-term management of RBGV's significant tree collections.
