This role manages a small team of policy analysts responsible for providing timely, high-quality advice to Ministers and senior executives. The position works closely with the Director to plan, develop and quality-assure written advice across a range of formats, and to progress policy projects and reforms in collaboration with stakeholder departments.
The team delivers a combination of quick turn-around advice and longer-term policy projects, requiring the role to balance business-as-usual demands with the development of new subject matter. The role also involves close engagement with stakeholder agencies to coordinate work programs, resolve issues, and negotiate outcomes.
Key accountabilities
§ Analyse public policy issues, with a focus on regulation, having reference to best-practice regulatory frameworks and evidence-based policy development.
§ Prepare timely, accurate and authoritative briefings on a wide range of policy issues for senior executives and government.
§ Communicate and consult in an effective and influential manner with internal and external stakeholders.
§ Provide leadership and manage workflow for a variety of short and long term projects.
§ Manage staff, foster a positive team culture and support team members.
Key Selection Criteria
· Proven ability to analyse policy issues to identify key risks, and to assess the implications of policy ideas.
· Proven ability to lead major pieces of work and provide strategic and influential advice to senior management or government on key policy issues.
· Proven ability to identify, build and maintain strong networks and relationships with stakeholders to achieve objectives.
· Strong people leadership skills.
Experience and qualifications
· Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, commerce, law or a related field are required.
