About the Department of Paediatrics
The Department of Paediatrics is part of the Medical and Cancer Services division. The Inpatient Paediatric Ward on 2 West is a 16-bed unit comprising medical and surgical patients with a diverse range of units involved. This includes but is not limited to; general paediatrics, endocrinology, epilepsy, eating disorders, general surgery, ENT, orthopaedics, plastics ophthalmology and maxillofacial surgery.
The Emergency Department has a separate dedicated Paediatric Emergency area including its own waiting room, 6 cubicles, paediatric procedure room and nursing staff. Children under the age of 16 are managed in the paediatric ED.
General Paediatric clinics run throughout the week for external and internal referrals. There are separate Paediatric Diabetes clinics and a separate specialised paediatric Epilepsy Service.
About the role
General paediatrics is a broad-based multidisciplinary specialty, which provides expert diagnosis, treatment and care for infants, children and young people aged up to 18 years.
The Locum Paediatrician may be employed in inpatient (including on call) and outpatient roles.
