Reporting to the Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing, the Commissioner's key functions are to champion Victorian industry and workers in government procurement, provide strategic advice to strengthen local industry participation, and oversee compliance with Local Jobs First requirements and Local Industry Development Plans. The role includes monitoring and investigating adherence to these requirements, handling complaints, conducting inspections, and taking enforcement action where breaches occur. It also encourages similar practices in the private sector and local government, and undertakes other priority activities as directed by the Minister in consultation with the department.
To be considered for this position, you will bring a strong understanding of Victorian Government industry, workforce development and procurement policy, particularly the Local Jobs First framework and its role in driving innovation, local capability and job creation. You will also have significant experience in procurement, industry or supply chain engagement, with expertise in manufacturing, construction, innovation and knowledge of Victorian industry opportunities and challenges. Strong compliance and enforcement experience and capability, exceptional senior stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, and proven leadership of high-performing teams will be essential, along with the ability to develop strategies that deliver practical outcomes.
