Licensing Officer
- Salary: $79,122 – $96,073 (Plus superannuation)

The Role
We are looking for a Licensing Officer to join the Policy and Licensing team within the Victorian Fisheries Authority.
The position contributes to the efficient and effective operation of the fishery licensing, permit and quota management system within the legislative requirements established under the Fisheries Act 1995 and subordinate regulations.
The position undertakes administrative processes in the delivery of licensing services for the Victorian Fisheries Authority.
This role contributes to the day-to-day delivery of the team's objectives. The position requires the incumbent to possess or attain a thorough knowledge of the relevant fishery legislation and fishery licensing procedures, with a view to providing accurate and timely customer service to a range of stakeholders.
Key accountabilities include:
- Support the timely and efficient delivery of fisheries licensing services, ensuring high level support for both the commercial fishing industry, aquaculture businesses and the recreational fishing sector.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of policies and procedures for permitting, licensing, and quota management to strengthen compliance and sustainability.
- Contribute to the enhancement and operation of licencing databases and IT reporting systems, enabling accurate, data-driven decision-making.
- Foster strong, transparent communication with stakeholders, including licence holders, operators, permit holders, and field staff, to build trust and clarity on licensing and quota matters.
- Evaluate and process licence and permit applications with integrity, providing informed recommendations that uphold regulatory standards and support industry needs.
- Contribute to priority projects, delivering high-quality administrative and policy support that aligns with organisational goals.
The Team
The position of Licencing Officer will work within Policy and Licensing Unit, which sits within the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) group.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:
- Knowledge of Legislation – Demonstrated understanding of Victorian fisheries legislation or a highly developed capacity to interpret legislation, policies, and management plans.
- Customer Service Experience – Proven experience in delivering high-quality customer service to the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Technical Competence – Demonstrated ability and experience in the use and management of computerised records systems.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills – Well-developed verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage confidently and professionally with clients and colleagues.
- Organisational and Planning Skills – Strong ability to plan, prioritise, and manage work programs to achieve agreed outputs, timelines, performance targets, and standards.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Ability – Demonstrated capacity to proactively identify opportunities, manage risks, and balance competing expectations.
