THE ROLE

The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (department) provides undergraduate Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Juris Doctor (JD) students who are in their penultimate or final year of the JD or LLB in 2025, the opportunity to experience a work placement in the department's Legal Services Branch. These internship placements give valuable insight into the role of a leading Victorian Public Service (VPS) department and builds capabilities suitable for a career in the VPS. The department is offering four legal internship placements from 10 November 2025 to 5 December 2025.
The Legal Services Branch are looking for summer interns that are motivated, demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, and good judgment, and have excellent written and oral communications skills. To succeed in this role, you will have strong academic results in a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and an interest in a career in government.
The interns will have the support of a key senior solicitor as their supervisor and will work in one of the teams for the course of the four week internship. The interns will also be exposed to a range of key legal activities from the other teams over the four week period. This will ensure that the interns are exposed to broad areas of legal work across the department and will develop a range of key legal skills.
