Learning Specialists are an integral part of the college¿s School Improvement Team and, together with the Principal Team, share responsibility for whole school improvement and for the development, implementation and review of the School Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plans. The Learning Specialist - Numeracy will, together with the Head of Numeracy, share responsibility for whole school numeracy improvement.
The Learning Specialist - Numeracy will:
1. Demonstrate outstanding classroom teaching practices in Numeracy, and specifically across Mathematics in the Victorian Curriculum and VCE, and a commitment to developing the teaching capacity of other staff.
2. Be an integral part of the Numeracy leadership team, and together with the Head of Numeracy, manage the development and integration of numeracy strategies across the college in order to facilitate excellence in learning and teaching for improved numeracy outcomes.
3. Lead staff, especially those engaged in key college numeracy support (e.g. MYLNs and Mentors) to develop their programs and practice, and oversee the administration, development and student placement to numeracy support programs.
4. Work closely with the Head of Numeracy, the Heads of Learning & Teaching and the Learning Area Leaders (LALs) to research, develop, integrate, implement and review numeracy strategies to both support and enhance staff capacity and student outcomes, and maintain accountability.
5. Initiate and lead the collection and analysis of Numeracy data in the college and utilise data to drive improvement in Numeracy learning outcomes across the school.
6. Work together with the Head of Numeracy and the Head of Learning & Teaching to further develop and implement the VSC Instructional Model with regard to numeracy.
7. Work together with the Head of Numeracy and the Head of Learning & Teaching to¿develop and implement strategies to achieve student outcomes targets.
8. Support and develop colleagues¿ practice (through observation and feedback, modelling and mentoring, presentation and explanation of data), and provide and encourage their participation in appropriate networks and professional development.
9. Coordinate the implementation and analysis of the PAT-Maths assessment program, including with cluster primary schools, across Years 5-10.
10. Analyse student data (e.g. Edutest, PAT-M and NAPLAN) to identify students who require targeted interventions, maintain student numeracy profiles, and develop strategies to improve their numeracy outcomes.
11. Support the Head of Learning & Teaching in the analysis and response to NAPLAN, PAT-Maths and Edutest data.
12. Work together with the Head of Numeracy and the Head of Learning & Teaching to develop key numeracy strategies for the Vermont Community of Practice.
13. Where appropriate, advocate for and provide support and advice to the parent community on numeracy development and home-learning opportunities and strategies
14. Work in conjunction with the Heads of Learning & Teaching and LALs in the promotion of school-based programs through various forums including the Open Evening, Subject Expo, Parent Information Evenings and Pathways Programs.
15. Support the Principal class in the provision of the Performance & Development process.
16. Other duties as required by the Principal and Head of Numeracy.
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
