Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

Manifold Heights Primary School is located in the suburb of Manifold Heights, within the City of Greater Geelong. The 2026 school year commenced with an enrolment of 482 students, continuing a slight positive growth trend over the past few years (396 students back in 2017). There are a number of other government primary schools within close proximity.
The school student cohort is arranged into Learning Communities 4 x Prep, 3 x Grade 1, 3 x Grade 2, 3 x Grade 3, 3 x Grade 4, 2 x Grade 5, 2 x Grade 6 and 1 x Grade 5/6 (composite). Learning Communities are spread out across the campus. A specialist program embracing the following key areas is provided to students PE, Performing Arts, Art/Indonesian and STEM. Each generalist class attends a 30 minute Library session as guided by the classroom teacher.
An Outside School Hours Care facility has a dedicated building and it supports a significant daily need both before and after school. Four adventure playgrounds provide students of all ages with opportunities for creative and imaginative play. The school has a number of basketball/netball courts and a grassed oval. Our indoor Multi-purpose building provides for a range of uses, including indoor PE lessons and shared community use arrangements. The school has a mixture of old and newer buildings. This includes a BER facility (Preps, Art and Library) and a 100 year old building which currently supports the Grade 1 and 2 Learning Communities and Administration areas.
The parent community is encouraged to engage in an active partnership with the school. Parents take an active role in our school and have assisted by being members on School Council, Parents and Friends Committee, assistance at camps and excursions, social and fundraising activities. They are also given support, guidance and encouragement to assist their child's learning at home.
