Established on its present site in 1870, Melton Primary School currently has a student population of around 630. Originally a rural school, it now services part of the young, growing outer-western suburb of Melton. With a rich heritage and a legacy that spans generations, our school stands as a testament to excellence and tradition. The historic bluestone building, an architectural gem in the rare Victorian Primitive Gothic style, is one of only seven of its kind in the state an enduring symbol of our proud past. First opening its doors on May 17, 1858, Melton Primary School has continually evolved to meet the needs of our thriving community. Today, we celebrate our role as a vibrant and dynamic learning hub, dedicated to delivering exceptional education to the ever-growing Melton Shire. Melton Primary School proudly welcomed 503 students this year.

Over the past five years, student enrolments have gradually decreased, primarily due to adjustments in school boundaries following the opening of new Government Schools. Despite these changes, Melton Primary School continues to hold a strong and positive reputation within the local community. Each year, a select number of enrolments are approved for families residing outside the school boundary who wish to join our thriving learning environment.
LEARNING
At Melton Primary School, we are proud of our ongoing commitment to improving student outcomes through engaging and high-quality learning experiences delivered by our dedicated staff. We teach the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, embracing a hands-on and dynamic approach to learning.
MPS continues to work tirelessly in developing a consistent approach to our curriculum in line with F-10 Victorian Curriculum and DET strategic directions.
At MPS our staff are committed to:
- creating a Professional Learning Community that focuses on learning rather than teaching, working collaboratively and holding ourselves accountable for results.
- developing and implementing a consistent curriculum in literacy and numeracy which fosters high expectations and improves outcomes for all students,

We provide our staff with high level professional learning through school based coaches. Our staff is committed to ongoing professional learning.
Our caring and dedicated staff members work closely with the wider school community to develop an educational partnership with and for the children. Parents are actively encouraged to participate in both classroom and wider school activities.
The students of MPS have the benefit of up to date facilities including:-
- A networked ICT system that extends throughout the entire school complex. All of our classrooms have Interactive Whiteboards or televisions installed. An i-Pad program provides support for teaching and learning programs.
- An indoor swimming complex which has a 6 lane 25 metre pool, toddler pool, change rooms and administration area. Our students are involved in two terms of swimming instruction as well as incidental pool based activities throughout the school year.
- A modern Multi-purpose hall incorporating a gymnasium, before and after school care centre, well-equipped canteen, handicapped toilet facilities, storage areas and offices. The hall is available for hire by community groups.
- A free standing Visual Arts room with facilities and equipment to provide a broad range of activities.
- A competition grade, fully lit tennis court with seating and shade sails provided in the surrounding area. This facility is also leased on a regular basis by a professional tennis coach who provides lessons to interested students in our community.
- Our BER building has 4 learning spaces, with one being utilised as a Science room, a meeting room, a small staffroom and toilet facilities.
- Large grounds including an oval, soccer ground, tennis and basketball courts, several play areas for specific age groups, safe modern climbing equipment, landscaped garden beds, covered areas and artificial turf.

Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in classrooms delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.
Responsibilities
Instructional and Pedagogical Leadership
· Model exemplary teaching practices with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy differentiation.
· Provide demonstration lessons and coaching to support implementation of effective literacy and numeracy strategies.
· Promote literacy and numeracy across the curriculum.
· Facilitate professional learning aligned to key research-based literacy and numeracy approaches and intervention strategies.
Curriculum, Assessment and Data
· Collaborate with the school leadership team to analyse school-wide data to identify trends in literacy and numeracy achievement.
· Collaborate with the Assistant Principals to design and deliver literacy and numeracy support programs for students learning at all levels.
· Support staff to interpret and use data to inform their classroom practice and differentiation.
· Contribute to the development of curriculum, assessment and reporting policies to embed high-quality literacy and numeracy practice.
Collaboration and Capacity Building
· Collaborate with the Learning Specialists, team leaders and classroom teachers to ensure consistency of instructional models and inclusive practice.
· Lead professional learning sessions and support team planning to incorporate numeracy and maths improvement strategies.
· Build professional trust and collaboration among teaching staff to support shared goals for student achievement.
· Promote a culture of reflective practice and professional growth focused on maths and numeracy improvement.
Strategic Contribution and Whole-School Impact
· Contribute to whole-school improvement through membership of professional learning communities.
· Support the implementation of the Annual Implementation Plan and Strategic Plan goals.
· Document school-wide literacy and numeracy practices and contribute to policy development related to curriculum, assessment and reporting.
· Actively engage in professional dialogue and remain informed of contemporary best practice in literacy and numeracy teaching and learning.
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
