Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.
Model and promote the vision, values and strategic direction of Mount Rowan Secondary College through high expectations, professional integrity and a commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and wellbeing.
Demonstrate ethical leadership, sound professional judgement and positive relationships with students, families, colleagues and the wider community.
Contribute to the strategic leadership and continuous improvement of the college through the implementation of the Annual Implementation Plan, whole-school priorities and consistent practices across Years 7-12.
Model exemplary classroom practice and build the capacity of colleagues through coaching, mentoring, collaboration and professional learning.
Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal Team.
Lead the development and implementation of evidence-informed inclusive teaching practices that enable all students to access and succeed in the Victorian Curriculum.
Build staff capacity to design and deliver differentiated learning that responds to the diverse learning needs of students across Years 7-12.
Support teachers to implement reasonable adjustments, personalised learning strategies and inclusive classroom practices aligned with the Disability Inclusion Framework.
Support Learning Area Leaders, in the development of curriculum and assessment, to ensure all students are being challenged and supported at their point of need.
Liaise with the LS Literacy and LS Numeracy to lead the analysis and use of student learning data to identify students requiring additional support or extension and evaluate the impact of teaching practices.
Support teachers to use assessment data to plan differentiated learning and monitor student growth.
Liaise with the LT Coaching to provide targeted coaching and mentoring to teachers to strengthen evidence-based instruction and improve student learning outcomes.
Lead and facilitate high-quality professional learning that builds staff expertise in effective pedagogy, assessment and intervention.
Foster a collaborative culture of professional inquiry by supporting teachers to analyse evidence of practice, reflect on impact and implement strategies that improve student outcomes.
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
