Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.
Role:
The Learning Specialist (Portfolio: Curriculum, Assessment & Reporting) is a key leadership role focused on enhancing teaching and learning practices across the college. This position supports staff in delivering an engaging, inclusive, and evidence-based curriculum aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and senior secondary pathways. Through collaboration, mentoring, and professional development, the Learning Specialist drives continuous improvement, promotes high-quality pedagogy, and ensures curriculum delivery meets the diverse needs of all students, fostering excellence in education.
Key Responsibilities:
Contribute to whole school decision making and liaise with other members of the College leadership team to develop consistent strategic responses to school issues, reinforce the College purpose and values, implement agreed policies and procedures, involve staff in the leadership and management of the curriculum and develop the leadership capacity of self and others relating to curriculum implementation
Liaise with and support staff with the implementation of curriculum initiatives including the priority areas outlined in the College strategic plan and annual implementation plan
Model, support and provide opportunities for staff to improve their capacity to deliver effective teaching and learning programs to all students in line with the college¿s Instructional Model, High Impact Teaching Strategies, Victorian Teaching & Learning Framework, EAL Framework and others as applicable
Lead the documentation and alignment of teaching and learning within the College including the implementation and preparation for pathways into VCE, VET and VCAL
Support CCT Leaders and work with Learning Specialists in the development of consistent curriculum documentation, consistent teaching practices, assessment, including exams, and resources.
Facilitate the matching of graduate teachers with suitable mentors to gain full registration through VIT as required and support the implementation of support for all teachers through school initiatives
Develop, update and publish a College wide assessment schedule that is regularly monitored and used to inform reporting cycles as well as decisions about teaching and learning
Liaise with external organisations including BEP schools and initiatives to facilitate professional learning opportunities to staff within and beyond the College including the updates to curriculum required by DE&T and VCAA
Support the involvement of students with specific talents and interests in learning programs such as VHAP, Tech School, Competitions and others.
Participate in targeted professional learning programs to develop leadership skills, including external coaching, for their own ongoing professional growth and development
Lead staff in a Performance and Development / Statement of Expectations group
As a member of the Leadership team, actively participate in parent and student events, attend additional meetings, such as leadership, Open Days, and other college-wide activities.

OUR COLLEGE
Eaglehawk Secondary College (ESC) is a Year 7¿10 college committed to meeting the diverse learning, wellbeing and engagement needs of young people as they prepare for senior secondary pathways, further education, training and employment.
Students from ESC progress to a range of senior secondary pathways, including the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) at Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC).
