Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

The Opportunity
At Kurmile Primary School, we are seeking a teaching and learning expert to take on the role of Learning Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced middle leader who is passionate about improving outcomes for students and building the collective capacity of teachers through evidence-informed practice, collaboration, coaching and professional learning.
Our Learning Specialist will play a key role in strengthening the current culture of excellence across our school. They will work alongside teachers and school leadership to model, demonstrate and embed our agreed high-impact teaching practices that respond to the diverse learning needs of our students.
This role provides the opportunity to demonstrate high-quality practice through demonstration lessons, classroom observation, mentoring and coaching, while supporting colleagues to reflect on their practice, analyse the impact of their teaching and identify purposeful next steps for professional growth.
A key focus will be supporting teachers to use student learning data, assessment evidence and feedback to inform planning, teaching and intervention. The successful applicant will work as part of our school leadership team to develop and strengthen a shared understanding of highly effective teaching practice and contribute to the implementation of our whole school improvement priorities.
The role also provides an opportunity to contribute to the strong professional learning culture at Kurmile Primary School. The Learning Specialist will model a commitment to their own ongoing professional learning, actively seek feedback on their practice and demonstrate the reflective and inquiry-based behaviours currently embedded across our teaching workforce.
