An opportunity exists for an experienced and passionate literacy leader to join Reservoir Views Primary School as Learning Specialist - Literacy in 2027.
At Reservoir Views Primary School, students learn literacy through structured, evidence-based, curriculum-aligned lessons that meet the Elements of Learning and Elements of Teaching from VTLM 2.0
Our students learn reading through evidence-based methods that focus on explicit, systematic instruction in the 'Big 6' of reading: oral language, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension through Decodable Readers Australia¿s Phonics program as well as text-based units from The Victorian Lesson Plans. Our knowledge-rich units combine literacy and inquiry and build on background knowledge, vocabulary, connections and comprehension skills.
Our students¿ writing follows the Writing Revolution and Sentence Science, where students engage in deep learning of sentence structure, grammar and punctuation and apply this to genre writing, gradually progressing from sentence to paragraph to whole text.
The school has continued to strengthen its approach to literacy through the implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0) and Victorian Curriculum 2.0. This work has supported greater consistency in planning, explicit and responsive teaching, and assessment.
The Learning Specialist - Literacy will lead the continued development of this work across the school, working alongside teachers to strengthen literacy practice, build teacher knowledge and support consistent implementation of our agreed approaches. The successful applicant will have a strong knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction, a commitment to improving student outcomes and the ability to work alongside teachers through professional learning, collaborative planning, modelling and feedback.
Reservoir Views Primary School was established in 2009 following the merger of Keon Park Primary School and Burbank Primary School. Located in Reservoir, just 11 km north of Melbourne's CBD, our school provides a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.
Our modern buildings are purposefully designed to support collaborative teaching and learning. Flexible learning spaces allow teachers and students to work together or independently as required. Beyond the classroom, our extensive grounds offer rich opportunities for play and connection. Students enjoy active and passive play areas, a Vegetable Garden supported by our Garden to Plate program, and a sensory play space designed to promote inclusion, relaxation, and engagement. The school also features five playgrounds, a running track, a large sports field, and basketball and netball courts. 2027 will see the Reservoir Views Primary School (interim name) kindergarten commence operation.
Our Vision is to provide excellent educational opportunities in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. We aim to instil a lifelong love of learning, celebrating both effort and achievement, with the belief that every student can thrive and go on to lead fulfilling lives.
Our school values, Courage, Curiosity, and Connection, form the foundation of our positive learning environment. Strong relationships between students, staff, and families are central to our culture, ensuring all members of our community feel supported, engaged, and connected. When students feel safe, challenged, and encouraged, they can aspire to be the best version of themselves.
Currently, 310 students are enrolled, with projected growth to 320 in 2027. Specialist programs are offered in Visual Art, Physical Education, Auslan, and Music.
We believe student success is strengthened through teacher collaboration and genuine partnerships with parents. All teachers work in teams to plan, teach, assess, and reflect together. Our flexible, open learning spaces further enhance collaboration and shared learning for both staff and students.
Reservoir Views Primary School proudly embraces diversity, reflecting the multicultural and socio-economic richness of our local community. A large proportion of our students come from language backgrounds other than English, and we actively foster inclusion and cultural understanding. Community connections are strengthened through events and programs such as our annual Welcome Picnic, Harmony Day, school concerts and performances, Learning Expos and our Classroom Helpers Program.
We are committed to equipping our students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they will need for the future. Alongside a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, we encourage curiosity, creativity, and a deep understanding of the world around them.
Reservoir Views Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic and committed educator who values collaboration, embraces continuous learning, and demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and passion for education.
