Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.
The Learning Specialist role at Moomba Park Primary School strengthens excellence in teaching and learning through high-impact instructional leadership. Learning Specialists lead and model evidence-based practice, build collective efficacy, and support the effective implementation of the School Strategic Plan (SSP) and Annual Implementation Plan (AIP).
Learning Specialists work alongside teachers to coach, model, observe and reflect on practice, and to facilitate professional learning that promotes a high-performing, collaborative culture.
Core ResponsibilitiesInstructional LeadershipModel high-quality instructional practice and support teachers to reflect on, refine, and embed effective teaching strategies.
Provide targeted coaching through observation, co-planning and feedback cycles.
Promote an inquiry mindset, reflection and evidence-based decision making.
Lead and monitor the implementation of AIP goals and associated school improvement strategies.
Support processes that enable the school to collect, analyse and respond to data (e.g., peer observations, learning walks, PLC practices).
Gather ongoing feedback from staff to assess implementation progress and identify next steps.
Develop and coordinate the whole-school meeting and professional learning schedule.
Facilitate professional learning that builds consistency of practice across teams.
Contribute actively to the School Improvement Team through weekly reflection, planning and evaluation.
Build the capacity of emerging and current leaders, including through regular work with team leaders to strengthen practice consistency and address barriers to implementation.
Set leadership goals aligned to school priorities and model professional behaviours that foster psychological safety, trust and collaboration.
Contribute to the development and documentation of curriculum resources to support PLCs and high-quality planning.
Participate in termly planning days to reflect on progress towards AIP goals and shape forward planning.
Undertake additional duties as directed by the Principal and reflective of school priorities.
Role specific responsibilities:
LS (F-2):
Oversee the implementation of the phonics teaching approach across F¿2 and support teachers to deliver explicit, systematic early literacy instruction. Ensuring this approach aligns with the DE Reading Position.
