Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

Ivanhoe Primary School is located in a residential area in Melbourne¿s North Eastern suburbs and has provided education to the local community for over 160 years. Student enrolments are anticipated to be approximately 560 in 2026.
The school¿s teaching spaces and general classrooms are spread across various buildings. The original in1923 building houses an administration block and 10 classrooms. The building is complemented by 12 relocatable classrooms. A `Building Education Revolution¿ school hall was added in 2010 and provides facilities for performing arts and physical education. In 2018 the first of two flexible learning spaces was completed ¿The Treehouse¿ and currently houses our Foundation students. In 2021 the school completed a second major capital works project delivering eight new permanent classrooms ¿The Beehive¿ that reduced the number of relocatable buildings and resulted in an increased outdoor play space. These significant additions to the infrastructure of the school have served to also free up valuable space for programs such as: Strings, Structured Literacy Groups and the Tutor Learning Initiative.
The February 2025 enrolment census was 555 students (261 female and 289 male). The school¿s socio-economic profile is based on the school's Student Family Occupation and Education index (SFOE). The 2025 index figure of 0.1084 places Ivanhoe Primary School outside of the band considered as disadvantaged.
21 percent of students had English as an Additional Language (EAL) and four students identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. We currently have no Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff. We currently do not offer programs for overseas students. Enrolment patterns reflect a stable number of students
The 2025 school staffing profile comprised 36 full time equivalent (FTE) teaching staff and 5.4 FTE education support staff. This included 31 classroom teachers, eight specialist teachers. Education support staff covered areas such as administration, library, integration and learning support.
Two Co Principals and an Assistant Principal along with one Leading Teacher and two Learning Specialists form the Leadership Team.
Specialist programs include Music, Art, Physical Education and Italian. Student support programs encompass English as an Additional Language. In 2025 the class structure comprised 25 groupings at straight year levels.
The school has maintained a focus on differentiation and feedback to maximise teacher capacity to address the needs of all learners across the different levels. Differentiated learning and a variety of effective support programs catered for students at either end of the learning spectrum. We are a member of a Community of Practice with Network schools, and we work together to maximise system outcomes.
The school has a firm commitment to providing opportunities for students to develop their artistic, physical, and technological talents. The curriculum incorporates the teaching of thinking skills and the innovative use of digital learning technologies.
