Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
In recognition of the importance of leadership and management combined with exemplary teaching practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the leading teachers and learning specialists may include but are not limited to:

Specific Role:
Leadership of wellbeing intervention/prevention/early detection with a focus on ensuring inclusive learning for students with wellbeing needs. This includes:
1. Analysis of Compass and other available data (attendance, Student Attitudes to Schooling etc) to evaluate the College holistic approach to student wellbeing and determine future directions and goals.
2. Respond to College data with appropriate wellbeing strategies and programs.
3. Work with appropriate personnel in the College to coordinate staff professional learning and other initiatives to ensure positive learning outcomes for students with wellbeing needs.
4. Ensure the College has a structured, data driven, Tier One early detection/intervention framework that allows a comprehensive preventative mental health approach.
5. Work as part of the STRIVE Curriculum Team to continually evaluate and develop curriculum for the STRIVE program Years 7-10.
6. Ensure that there is a clear, evidence based and documented process for consistent wellbeing promotion throughout the College community.
7. Participate in regular meetings with the Health and Wellbeing Key Contact, and with the College Intervention Team.
8. Act as Child Safety Officer within the College ensuring compliance with all Child Safe standards and management of child safety issues.
9. Coordinate the Wellbeing Team including the Mental Health Practitioner and School Nurse.
10. Ensure appropriate acquittal of the mental health fund to support student wellbeing priorities.
11. Co ordinate support for Out of Hours Home Care and Koorie students in line with Department policies.
12. Develop appropriate policies and processes for effective operations of the Wellbeing Team and the Wellbeing Hub
13. Chair allocation meetings weekly and Wellbeing Team debrief meetings daily
14.. Undertake an appropriate student case load.
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements.
