Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
Leadership and Curriculum (P-6)
¿ Actively contribute as a member of the MEC Leadership Team, including participation in Leadership and Planning Implementation Team meetings. ¿ Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop, implement, and monitor school priorities aligned to the SSP and AIP. ¿ Support a cohesive, team-based approach to whole-school improvement initiatives ¿ Undertake additional duties as directed by the Principal in alignment with the role and school priorities. ¿ Lead the development, documentation, and ongoing refinement of a guaranteed and viable P¿6 curriculum in line with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0. ¿ Oversee the creation and maintenance of Curriculum Area Plans (CAPs) and Curriculum Area Maps (CAMs). ¿ Guide staff in the development of aligned term, weekly, and unit plans based on CAPs and CAMs. ¿ Ensure systems for curriculum documentation including storage, access, and review.
Teaching and Learning (VTLM 2.0)
¿ Lead the implementation and consistent application of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0), with a focus on Explicit Teaching and Enabling Learning. ¿ Design and deliver a structured professional learning program aligned to VTLM 2.0. ¿ Model high-quality instructional practices and promote consistent use of VTLM 2.0 language across the school. ¿ Observe classroom practice and provide targeted, constructive feedback to build staff capacity. ¿ Lead and coordinate the Learning Walk process, including the effective use of enabling technologies (e.g. SWIVL).
Assessment, Data and Reporting
¿ Lead P¿6 staff in all aspects of reporting, ensuring compliance with timelines and quality standards, including: o Semester reporting timelines and processes ¿ Development and scheduling of learning tasks o Timely creation and uploading of assessment tasks ¿ Establish and maintain semester timelines and learning task schedules. ¿ Lead the collection, storage, analysis, and use of student data (e.g. NAPLAN, PAT, Ochre, DIBELS) to inform teaching and learning. ¿ Work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal (Curriculum, Teaching and Learning) to coordinate and administer NAPLAN for Years 3 and 5.
Professional Learning
¿ Develop and manage a P¿6 professional learning calendar with a focus on VTLM 2.0 Explicit Teaching practices. ¿ Facilitate high-quality, evidence-based professional learning sessions responsive to staff needs and school priorities

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
