Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
Role:
A Community Leader at Eaglehawk Secondary College is responsible for fostering a positive learning environment, managing student engagement and wellbeing, and overseeing attendance within their learning community. They ensure that the learning community aligns with the college's values and contributes to achieving goals set in the college's Annual Implementation Plan and Strategic Plan.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to whole-school decision-making and collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop consistent strategic responses, reinforce college purpose and values, implement agreed policies and procedures, and build leadership capacity in staff and students.
Support Teacher Advisors and classroom teachers with student management, wellbeing and engagement matters, including behaviour, referrals, restorative practices, parent contact, modified timetables, detentions, suspensions, re-entry meetings, Behaviour Support Plans, IEPs, SSGs and DIPs.
Lead the implementation of reasonable adjustments for students requiring additional support, collaborating with internal and external specialists and the Disability Inclusion Coordinator to ensure consistency and maintain required evidence.
Liaise with parents, external agencies and college staff to support positive student learning, engagement, attendance and wellbeing outcomes.
Monitor attendance data and oversee attendance plans within the Learning Community, while developing staff capability to effectively follow up and respond to student attendance concerns.
Build staff capacity to implement consistent and predictable routines across the Learning Community, including Ready to Learn, classroom environments, entry and exit routines, and practices aligned with the Berry Street Education Model and college Instructional Model.
Lead Community Professional Learning Teams and Performance and Development/Statement of Expectations processes, supporting professional collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with Community Assistants to provide coordinated support and achieve shared Learning Community goals.
Lead and support Year 6¿7 and Year 10¿11 transition programs, including data sharing, primary school visits, transition activities and student visits to Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
Undertake an annual portfolio aligned with an identified Annual Implementation Plan priority and informed by student, staff and parent feedback and survey data, while engaging in targeted professional learning and leadership development.
Model Eaglehawk Secondary College values and actively contribute to the broader life of the college through Leadership Team participation, parent and student events, Open Days, additional meetings and other college-wide activities.
Other related duties as requested by the Principal.
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

OUR COLLEGE
Eaglehawk Secondary College (ESC) is a Year 7¿10 college committed to meeting the diverse learning, wellbeing and engagement needs of young people as they prepare for senior secondary pathways, further education, training and employment.
Students from ESC progress to a range of senior secondary pathways, including the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) at Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC).
