The Role
The Lead, Greater China and North Asia plays a pivotal role in shaping Victoria's international economic engagement across these regions. Drawing on strong regional expertise, you will provide strategic advice and lead initiatives that support Victoria's economic growth, including identifying emerging trends, risks and opportunities. You will work closely with international offices, government, business and industry stakeholders to translate market intelligence into practical strategies and outcomes.
This role requires a highly collaborative and influential leader who can navigate complex environments, build trusted relationships and support high-level decision-making. You will contribute to whole-of-government priorities, support ministerial and executive engagement, and deliver high-quality briefings, reports and strategic projects. As a people leader, you will foster a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture.
Main Accountabilities
• Apply high-level expertise to analyse market trends and inform strategic international engagement
• Build and influence stakeholder relationships to address complex and competing needs
• Identify and respond to emerging strategic issues impacting the operating environment
• Develop policies, programs and initiatives using knowledge of government processes and context
• Lead negotiations and stakeholder engagement to deliver projects and outcomes within timelines
The Team
The position of Lead, Greater China and North Asia forms a part of the Global Engagement team within the Industry, Trade and Investment Group.
The Industry, Trade and Investment Group works closely with businesses to grow jobs, drive innovation and increase Victoria's global competitiveness by strengthening trade and investment opportunities.
Global Victoria connects the state to global opportunities through its international network, building export capability and promoting Victoria's industry strengths. The Global Engagement team provides regional market intelligence, supports international engagement and coordinates global initiatives across government.
About You
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to manage complex needs and influence senior stakeholders to achieve outcomes
• Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving capability, with experience developing strategic, sustainable solutions across government or complex environments
• Proven ability to deliver projects by balancing stakeholder, organisational and team priorities
