The Science Laboratory Technician will work in a team to maintain the Science facilities across the College (Years 7-12) and support the delivery of Science programs and curriculum by sourcing and preparing materials for practical classes, maintaining stock and equipment and providing relevant assistance to teachers and students. Working closely with teaching staff, the Science Laboratory Technician will be focused on the delivery of quality outcomes on a professional and timely basis. This position involves the coordination of the work of the science department and requires significant expertise and qualifications/experience. It is desirable for the successful applicant to have a Diploma of Applied Science or equivalent or a Cert. IV with significant experience or extensive relevant experience in a related field. Key responsibility areas (KRA) include: Teacher Support i) Liaise with science teaching staff on their needs for practical work and maintain an efficient system for use and allocation of materials and equipment, setting a priority system where necessary. ii) Advise science teaching staff on technical components of curriculum. iii) Assist science teaching staff with demonstrations, including acting as a demonstrator. iv) Assist science teaching staff in instructing students on use/care of equipment during science experiments. v) Advise and assist science teaching staff in safety matters relating to the science laboratory. vi) Prepare safety assessments for activities in the preparation area and, in conjunction with the teacher, in the teaching laboratory. vii) Demonstrate laboratory techniques to science teaching staff/students. viii) Assist with the use of computers and learning technologies within the department. ix) Assist with the development of operational
