About Department of Government Services
The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve how Victorians, businesses and public servants experience government. The department has a focus on accelerating digital transformation across the Victorian Public Sector.
DGS brings together critical services and functions to make government simpler, more connected and more productive. This includes modernising service delivery and digital platforms, strengthening digital and data capability, and shaping a whole-of-government technology reform agenda.
Within the DGS portfolio sits the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV), which plays a vital stewardship role for the State of Victoria. PROV supports accountability, transparency and public trust by preserving, managing and enabling access to public records. PROV works with departments and agencies to meet their obligations in an increasingly digital and data-driven environment.
About the role
The Keeper of Public Records and Executive Director, Information Governance is a senior executive leadership role.
The role leads the Public Record Office Victoria as an Administrative Office attached to DGS and works in close partnership with departments, agencies and senior executives across government to support compliance with record keeping obligations.
It is responsible for leading and evolving Victoria's whole-of-government approach to information governance. This role goes beyond traditional records management to encompass contemporary information and data stewardship, including digital information management, data governance, information security, and enabling government to responsibly unlock the value of its information assets.
A key focus of the role is navigating the opportunities and risks of digitisation, including AI-enablement, information security, and evolving community expectations around transparency and access to public records and government data. The role also performs a critical leadership, policy and change management function.
About You
You are a senior executive leader with strong credibility in contemporary information governance and record keeping, and a proven ability to lead complex, system-wide reform in dynamic environments. You bring experience defining strategy in emerging or uncharted policy and delivery contexts, influencing senior stakeholders across government, and driving change while maintaining trust with diverse and engaged stakeholder groups.
You are comfortable balancing stewardship and regulatory responsibilities with innovation, pragmatism and delivery focus, and you bring strong financial, governance and execution discipline. You are able to work effectively with senior executives and Ministers to shape and advance a whole-of-government agenda. Senior executive experience and a relevant tertiary qualification are required. Experience with digital information and data reform, cyber and information security, and contemporary public sector information challenges is highly desirable, but not mandatory. You will be a collaborative, credible and values-driven leader, able to steward an important public institution.
