They will design and run small workshops that give selected students time out of their regular classes to support their social and emotional wellbeing and academic development. The role involves leading practical, hands-on sessions: from fitness and art to outdoor activities and skill-based projects. These sessions help students reset, build confidence and re-engage with school. They act as a mentor throughout the day, building trust, encouraging positive habits and creating a safe, calm space for students who need an alternative learning environment.

Daylesford College is the sole provider of secondary education in the Shire of Hepburn and consists of 480 students, 40 teachers and 12 support staff. The school draws students from a wide region with 65% of students travelling to school by bus every day.

Working Independently While Collaborating With the School TeamYou can run sessions confidently on your own while working closely with teachers and staff to identify student needs and track progress. You stay organised, maintain accurate records and adapt sessions based on feedback and student engagement.
Design and deliver a daily program of short, practical workshops such as fitness sessions, art activities, outdoor walks, bike repair or other hands-on projects that support students¿ social and emotional wellbeing.
Create a calm, structured and welcoming environment where students can take a purposeful break from mainstream classes and re-engage at their own pace.
Build positive, trusting relationships with students by acting as a mentor, modelling respectful communication and encouraging positive habits, routines and self-regulation.
Adapt activities to meet the needs, abilities and interests of individual students, ensuring sessions are safe, inclusive and engaging.
Work closely with teachers, wellbeing staff and leadership to identify students who would benefit from withdrawal sessions and plan appropriate supports.
Monitor student participation, engagement and progress, keeping clear records and sharing relevant information with the school team.
Respond calmly and effectively when students become dysregulated, using proactive strategies to de-escalate situations and maintain a safe environment.
Work closely with the Head of Inclusion & Student Support and the LS/T Learning Support to identify suitable students and to provide feedback on progress of those on the programs.
Contribute to the overall goals of the school by offering ideas, feedback and improvements to the alternative learning program.
Maintain spaces, equipment and materials needed for workshops, ensuring activities are well-prepared and resources are organised.
