Blackburn High School is a vibrant, multicultural, and inclusive co-educational government school for students in Years 7-12 that provides a comprehensive education located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, about 16 km from the CBD. The school has a well-established International Student Program supporting approximately 100 international students from a diverse range of countries. There are approximately 1300 students with an enrolment cap placed for Year 7. The school's workforce is made up of the Principal, three Assistant Principals, twelve Leading Teachers and four Learning Specialists, with approximately 150 teaching and education support staff. The House System consists of four interdependent House learning communities, that foster a sense of connectedness and belonging that forge strong links with the home. The school day begins with a 15-minute mentor session on four of the days with students vertically arranged from Year 7-12 working together, followed by five 58-minute periods where students work within their year level groupings.
The school is situated on a large, spacious 12-hectare site with well-maintained grounds and exceptional sporting facilities including a gymnasium and the impressive covered outdoor sporting area. The school¿s learning spaces inspire and promote creativity and a sense of pride and include a STEM Centre, Art Precinct, VCE Centre, Resource Centre with Pathways, IT and Wellbeing. The school offers a wide range of core, enrichment electives and extension subjects for Years 7-10 and a High Achievers Program. We also offer a full range of VCE subjects, VET and Vocational Major with a high proportion of students entering tertiary educational institutions.
The school provides a comprehensive, challenging, curriculum that encourages a strong work ethic, a large range of extra-curricular activities and student leadership programs including clubs, extensive camps program, a highly acclaimed music program, the very successful sports program, robotics competitions, the Duke of Edinburgh and Art/Technology exhibitions.

Education Support Class - Level 1 Range 3
This position is classified as an Education Support Class ¿ Level 1 Range 3 position under the Victorian Government Schools Agreement.
The role works under the direction of the International Student Program Coordinator and is responsible for providing administrative, operational and student support within established policies, procedures and guidelines.
The position exercises judgement within clearly defined processes, performs tasks that require knowledge of school and Department procedures and contributes to the effective operation of the International Student Program.
The position does not have responsibility for the management of the International Student Program, legislative compliance decisions, staff supervision or financial delegation. These responsibilities remain with the International Student Program Coordinator and Principal Class.
Key Selection Criteria
1. Administration and Organisation
Demonstrated experience providing high-quality administrative support, maintaining accurate records and managing competing priorities with excellent attention to detail.
2. Communication and Customer Service
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish positive working relationships with students, parents, homestay providers, staff and external agencies from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
3. Student Support
Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with young people, provide practical day-to-day support and recognise when student wellbeing concerns require referral to appropriate staff.
4. Digital Literacy
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively use Department of Education and school administration systems.
5. Teamwork and Professional Practice
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team, exercise sound judgement within established procedures and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
6. Cultural Competence
Demonstrated understanding of working respectfully with culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Proficiency in an additional language, particularly Mandarin, is highly desirable.

Position Purpose
The International Student Program Support Officer provides high-quality administrative and operational support to assist in the effective delivery of Blackburn High School's International Student Program.
Working under the direction of the International Student Program Coordinator, the position supports the administration of student enrolments, records management, homestay arrangements, compliance processes and program activities. The role also provides day-to-day support to international students, helping them to feel welcomed, connected and supported throughout their educational journey.
The position contributes to the effective operation of the International Student Program through the provision of accurate administration, responsive support and positive relationships with students, families, homestay providers, staff and external agencies.
