Ensure Victoria’s earth resources sector operates safely, responsibly, and in full compliance with the law.
Resources Victoria is committed to responsible exploration, development, extraction and rehabilitation of the state’s critical minerals, gold, petroleum, coal, sand, rock and gravel. We regulate operations to ensure they protect communities, the environment, and public safety while supporting sustainable industry growth.
As an Inspector, you will carry out authorised officer functions to facilitate land access to support the energy transition, inspections, audits, and investigations across exploration, mining, quarrying, and petroleum activities. You will enforce compliance with legislation, follow up on breaches, and work with operators to improve safety and environmental standards. Your role will also involve engaging with local communities to ensure their concerns are addressed in a timely and transparent way.
In this role, you will:
Deliver authorised officer functions for the VicGrid program in the region, including site visits, enforcement, administration and reporting.
Lead inspections, audits, and investigations to ensure earth resources operations meet legal and safety standards.
Respond to incidents and breaches with actions ranging from education to enforcement and prosecution.
Monitor and assess site rehabilitation, including onsite checks and aerial drone surveys.
Build trust with industry and communities through clear communication and transparent engagement.
About you
You have a strong background in compliance or regulation in the natural resources or related industries. You are confident in interpreting and applying legislation, and you bring sound judgement and integrity to your decision-making. You thrive in both independent and team-based work, and you can navigate complex problems with creativity and practicality.
Why join us?
At Resources Victoria, you’ll be part of a highly skilled and collaborative regulatory team that plays a critical role in protecting Victoria’s environment, communities, and future resource availability. We offer flexible work arrangements, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to make a measurable difference in the safe and sustainable management of the state’s earth resources.
