The Health Assistant in Nursing (HAN) is a valued member of the patient care team. The HAN provides Safe, Timely, Effective and Person-centred (STEP) care to our patients together with our multidisciplinary teams
Provide care with teams across various areas in one of Melbourne’s leading hospitals. The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) provides a comprehensive range of specialty services including medical, surgical, mental health, rehabilitation, aged care, outpatient, and community programs

Your New Role
- HANs work in partnership with patients and where applicable, carers and families to provide direct care and assistance, supporting the nursing and multidisciplinary teams
- HANs work within their scope of practice and under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and/or a Registered Nurse (RN) delegate within their level of education, assessed competencies and under clearly defined role parameters.
- HANs work within the Nursing Workforce Unit with allocations across various clinical areas including acute and sub-acute wards, and aged care settings.
About You
- Commitment to providing STEP care, the Melbourne Way by putting people first, leading with kindness, and achieving excellence together.
- Able to work a rotation roster Monday to Sunday including AM, PM and ND shifts
- Minimum commitment of 48 hours per fortnight
- At least 6 months of experience in a healthcare setting. Experience in a hospital setting is desirable.
- Skilled in-patient partnership, maintaining safety and managing behaviours of concern
