THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs and Events the Head of Emergency Management will lead a small team to develop, deliver and effectively evaluate integrated communications, public information and media support for the department's emergency management (relief and recovery) function.
Working closely with the department's portfolio communication, digital and media teams, the Emergency Management Central Branch and Divisions, Emergency Management Victoria (EMV), Emergency Recovery Victoria (ERV) and other emergency management organisations and government departments, they will lead the development and implementation of integrated and innovative communications and stakeholder engagement strategies for emergency preparedness, response, relief and recovery, and the evaluation and reporting on their effectiveness; including overseeing the production and distribution of communications and media collateral and events.
The incumbent will display strong strategic capability as well as operational expertise, working as part of the Public Engagement Branch's leadership team and collaborating with the department's Executive Board and other senior staff and ministers to ensure that emergency management communication is clear, engaging, aligned with the department's strategic plan and the broader State Emergency Management Plan. You will be required to participate in the Department's emergency management public information roster.
As appropriate, you may also be required to provide support to other teams across the Branch as and when required, including participating in out of hours media, providing support for large-scale communications campaigns and other high priority projects, to contribute the effective management of work across the Public Engagement Branch and department.
