Role description
The primary objective of the Graduate Nurse Program is to develop and consolidate clinical skills acquired during the Diploma of Nursing course to provide best practice, evidence based, person-centred health care to consumers in a range of settings in a safe and competent manner as a developing Enrolled Nurse..
The main focus of the program is related to the specialty of Gerontology. Gerontology is the study of aging and how this impacts physical, mental and social wellbeing. With a rapidly aging population in Australia, there is much greater emphasis on the care and management of those with complex chronic diseases with this extending to all areas and specialties of nursing.
Program Structure
The program will consist of 2x 6-month rotations. One rotation will be allocated to an aged care home within Dhelkaya Health and the other in either of our acute or subacute wards.
During this 12-month period Graduates will attend 3 study days: –

And a 3-day interactive, hands-on workshop titled Comprehensive Health Assessment of the Older Person, presented by La Trobe University. This workshop provides nurses with content and skills development in the areas of:
