The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a General Manager, Assets and Infrastructure. This new role is located within the Contracts and Infrastructure Branch within the Custodial Operations Division of Corrections Victoria.
About the Business Unit
Contracts and Infrastructure are responsible for contract management, commercial oversight and advisory services, as well as the effective management and maintenance of all Corrections and Justice Services' prison and related infrastructure. This includes:
- The management and oversight of major contracts including those for private prisons.
- Representing the Corrections and Justice Services' interests on infrastructure and construction projects to ensure the best possible outcome for stakeholders and commercial partners.
- The development and implementation of all required systems, processes and policies to sustain this diverse asset portfolio.
About the Role
The General Manager, Assets and Infrastructure, reporting directly to the Director, Contracts and Infrastructure Branch will have overall strategic leadership responsibility of the Assets and Infrastructure work portfolio in the branch.
This involves providing leadership across the asset contracts and minor capital works project functions in the branch and overseeing the Assets and Infrastructure Tool (AIFT) budget. This role will require a confident and strategic leader who can also establish strategies for managing departmental risks and issues in relation to infrastructure and asset contracts.
Some of your duties will include:
- Provide overall strategic leadership and management of the Assets and Infrastructure portfolio in the Contracts and Infrastructure Branch.
- Proactively drive and implement contract initiatives, representing departmental business needs, including undertaking commercial negotiations for required service changes, leading procurement activities, driving value for money and operational excellence.
- Lead the provision of high quality, authoritative advice and leadership on commercial contract management, infrastructure management and procurement related matters to various senior stakeholders.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Extensive experience in contract administration with high level skills in the provision of commercial advice for major contracts and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary contract administration activities including the ability to prepare comprehensive reports including commercial and contractual analysis.
- Demonstrated project management experience in capital works, asset lifecycle replacement, building, construction or infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of contract management and procurement best practice, legislative and policy requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developing high performing teams that achieve intended outcomes to a high standard.
Qualifications/requirements
- There are no mandatory qualifications for this role, however qualifications in contract administration, project management and/or Correctional experience would be desirable.
