Corrections Victoria is part of the Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety and supports the Minister for Corrections. CJS also comprises Justice Health (which manages health services in adult and youth custodial facilities); Policy, Strategy and Service Design; Group Services and Coordination; and Justice Services (which includes Community Correctional Services and other justice programs). CJS plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system
Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult prison system, seeking to provide safe and secure containment for people in custody and an environment and programs and services that support rehabilitation. Corrections Victoria runs 11 public prisons, one transition centre, and oversees privately operated prisons. Corrections Victoria provides best practice interventions that aim to reduce the risk of reoffending, including case management informed by sound risk assessment, offence specific and offence related programs, and transition and reintegration supports.
Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes leads the design, development, implementation and monitoring of Corrections Victoria policies, programs and services aimed at reducing the over-representation of Aboriginal people within the Victorian correctional system and manage initiatives related to the Safer prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities reform agenda. The divisi on is made up of three teams Cultural Review and Workforce Strategy, Naalamba Ganbu and Nerrlinggu Yilam and Aboriginal Operational Strategic Supports. This role sits within the Aboriginal Operational Strategic Supports which is responsible for policy, contracts and procurement, governance and secretariat functions and planning and reporting for Aboriginal programs and services.
About the role:
The General Manager Aboriginal Operations Strategic Support oversees the team that develops and monitors policies, programs and services that aim to support better outcomes for Aboriginal people in custody. The team oversees the contract, procurement, budget, business planning, governance and secretariat services in this space. The role will work closely with the General Manager Naalamba Ganbu and Nerrlinggu Yilam and other key internal and external stakeholders focused on supporting Aboriginal people in custody and on their transition back to community.
