About the Opportunity
The First Nations Collections Officer looks after the Yoorrook Official Public Record (OPR) and engages with the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria (FPAV). The role supports and coordinates the FPAV and Victorian Indigenous Research Centre (VIRC) Yoorrook Archive First Nations Governance Committee.
The First Nations Collections Officer role sits within the Victorian Indigenous Research Centre, which provides a culturally appropriate space for the community to access and connect with cultural heritage collections and family history.
The OPR includes a website and a collection of physical artefacts. The First Nations Collections Officer will help the VIRC to sustain the OPR. The purpose of the role is to promote a shared understanding among all Victorians of First Peoples experiences of the ongoing impacts of colonisation.
From May 2026, the First Nations Collections Officer will work closely with Gellung Warl, as well as continuing to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and internal teams at State Library Victoria.
