An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
A role at this range may include:
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
The responsibilities of this position will be:
¿ Attend to students, staff and others who are in need of treatment for illness or injury
¿ Provide medical intervention support that involves a specific medical condition which requires specialised training/instruction and has clearly defined responsibility for the administration of such support
¿ Administer medication to students as required and record accurately
¿ Ensure parents/guardians are contacted where necessary
¿ Communicate with parents/guardians to ensure that students medical information is correct and up to date
¿ Liaise with relevant personnel on matters affecting the wellbeing of students and staff, as well as with parents/guardians as appropriate.
¿ Ensure supplies are maintained at all times, including replenishing first aid kits, checking material and equipment to ensure safe use
¿ Ensure sick bay is clean, well organised and maintained in accordance to OH&S standards
¿ Implement emergency management procedures when necessary
¿ Carry out other healthcare duties as required by the Principal or Business Manager
¿ Ensure anaphylaxis/asthma/allergy/diabetes documentation/medication is up to date
¿ Maintain necessary medical records and incident forms and the accurate recording of these in Cases21

This position is:
Five days a week, 10.30am - 3.00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day.
Ivanhoe Primary School is located in a residential area in Melbourne¿s north-eastern suburbs and has served the local community for more than 160 years. Student enrolments are expected to be approximately 560 in 2026. The February 2025 enrolment census recorded 550 students (261 female and 289 male). The school¿s socio-economic profile is measured using the Student Family Occupation and Education (SFOE) index. The 2025 index value of 0.1084 places Ivanhoe Primary School outside the band considered disadvantaged.
In 2025, 21 per cent of students had English as an Additional Language (EAL), and four students identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The school currently has no Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander staff and does not offer programs for overseas students. Enrolment patterns indicate a stable student population.
The 2025 staffing profile comprised 36 full-time equivalent (FTE) teaching staff and 5.4 FTE education support staff. This included 31 classroom teachers and eight specialist teachers. Education support staff provided assistance across administration, library services, integration and learning support.
The school maintains a strong focus on differentiation and feedback to maximise teacher capacity to meet the diverse needs of all learners. A range of targeted support programs ensures students at both ends of the learning spectrum are appropriately challenged and supported.
