About the role
This is a Fixed Term Position until 25 January 2027
The Financial Accountant supports the financial robustness of DTP by delivering accurate monthly tasks, maintaining systems, ensuring compliance, and preparing reliable financial reports. The role also provides expert financial advice, liaises with auditors, and resolves complex performance and compliance issues to uphold the department’s financial integrity.

Position accountabilities
- As required, perform monthly and recurring financial and accounting tasks ensuring timeliness and accuracy, update and maintain systems, provide financial help desk support and process financial transactions using professional expertise.
- Provide financial and business advice, guidance and support to stakeholders, in relation to DTP’s financial policies and procedures.
- Assist with the preparation and completion of accurate financial information for DTP’s monthly financial reports and also for the annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and financial reporting requirements as per the Standing Directions in the Financial Management Act.
Technical capabilities
Financial Accounting and Statutory Reporting (Applied) – Applies accounting policies and compliance requirements to support reconciliation, reporting, and decision-making.
Qualifications and experience
Mandatory
- A Tertiary Qualification in accounting or finance that meets the entry requirements for the CPA or CA programs.
Desirable
- Membership of CPA Australia or CA Australia New Zealand.
