Occupation: Leadership and management

About the role:
Treaty is about ensuring First Peoples have a say over the policies that impact them and their families. Australia's first formal truth-telling process, the Yoorrook Justice Commission, heard evidence of the historical and ongoing injustices experienced by First Peoples in Victoria. The work of the Commission helps us understand our history from the perspective of Aboriginal people, how it impacts on their present, and how Treaty can be the pathways to practical changes and solutions.
The Executive Treaty Coordinator will provide strategic leadership and coordination working across the Department of Health (the department), with other key government agencies, health services and key Aboriginal health organisations to shape the department's engagement in the Truth and Treaty process. The role will lead the development and implementation of a range of strategic initiatives to ensure the department and its staff are Treaty ready and able to actively participate in the Treaty process.
The role will manage senior stakeholders and develop high quality advice regarding the Treaty negotiation and implementation process in line with principles of self-determination and leads to the improved health and wellbeing outcomes of First Peoples and their families living in Victoria.
The role requires strong facilitation and collaboration skills and an ability to work flexibly and creatively to respond to emerging issues, systemic barriers and identify reform activities relevant to Treaty, departmental priorities and findings of the Truth-telling process of the Yoorrook Justice Commission.
