The Organisation
IBAC is Victoria's independent anti-corruption agency responsible for preventing and exposing public sector corruption and police misconduct. It does this by investigating serious corruption and police misconduct; and informing the public sector, police and the community about the risks and impacts of corruption and police misconduct, and ways in which it can be prevented. Its jurisdiction covers state and local government, police, parliament, and the judiciary.
The Role
As Executive Director, Legal & Compliance you lead a division that provides strategic, informed and consistent advice on core IBAC functions, as well as advice on governance, legislation, internal and external compliance, administrative law and litigation.
Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the Executive, you will work collaboratively to deliver legal services in support of IBAC's strategic and operational objectives, to drive change and continuous improvement, build capacity and deliver strategic and operational outcomes through the provision of a range of legal services.
A Director, Public Law, Policy & Oversight and a Director, Legal Operations report to you. They in turn manage a large team.
You will work closely with and support the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners and senior management who share responsibility for highly sensitive, often political matters with wide-ranging implications. At the same time, your focus will be on initiating improvement processes across the Legal & Compliance Division.
The Ideal Candidate
This demanding position calls for a mature lawyer highly skilled in administrative law and/or litigation as well as, ideally, a background in regulatory compliance, policy and criminal law most likely gained within an integrity agency or regulator.
You demonstrate outstanding people leadership and change management skills and have the courage to accept responsibility for very serious, sensitive and confidential decisions within IBAC's legislative framework.
