The Event Labour Crew is instrumental in the setup and takedown of various event elements, ensuring the seamless execution of customer experiences and events, while upholding Fed Square's high standards of service delivery and presentation excellence.
The role supports team members by performing event and venue setup tasks, assisting in venue arrangements, equipment handling, and contributing to the setup and takedown of temporary event structures and back of house activities. The role maintains awareness of basic OH&S practices, adhering with regulations and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
The Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporate (MAP Co) is the State Government agency responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Melbourne Arts Precinct (MAPT) project as well as the operations, programming, promotion and maintenance of Fed Square.
MAP Co is overseeing the delivery of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project that includes, The Fox: NGV Contemporary, a new gallery dedicated to contemporary art and design; Laak Boorndap, the 18,000 square metre public open space in the heart of the precinct; as well as significant upgrades to Arts Centre Melbourne and its historic State Theatre.
It also takes on the management and operations of Fed Square and is responsible for connecting a single continuous art, civic, and cultural precinct stretching from Fed Square through Southbank.
Once the transformation is complete, MAP Co will also manage and activate Laak Boorndap, the urban garden that will connect the Melbourne Arts Precinct in a seamless and immersive cultural experience.
Fed Square is the gateway to the art precinct – and as Melbourne's public square it is the civic, cultural and community heart of the city. It home to three of Victoria's major cultural institutions: ACMI – Australia's Museum of Screen Culture, the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT) and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia along with an array of restaurants and cafes. Located opposite the iconic Flinders St Station, it is Melbourne's premier meeting place, tourist destination and event venue for thousands of free events every year.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities (Role description attached with the full responsibilities):
- Set up and arrange fencing and furniture according to event specifications, ensuring safety and aesthetic appeal.
- Construct and dismantle temporary structures for events, including pop-up marquees, stage risers and other spatial requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation in venues and back of house areas, facilitating easy access to event equipment and materials.
- Disassemble and clean event materials such as covers and skins as needed for maintenance and to uphold presentation standards across the venue.
- Operate buggies, forklifts, and other specialised vehicles to transport equipment and assist in event set up and breakdown.
- Undertake additional tasks related to facility management, organisation and maintenance.
- Assist in managing traffic flow and vehicle permits during events to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Monitor and assist pedestrian flow at entry and exit points during events, ensuring efficient flow of attendees and vehicles.
Please note that this role will likely work a minimum of 3 -5 hour shifts and participate in split shifts over a range of hours (day, afternoon and night shifts).
The Event Labour role is a casual position with a pay rate of $30.51 p/h + casual loading

Desired Experience/Qualifications:
- Previous experience in event set up and coordination would be advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining presentation and safety standards.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules.

Health and Safety Requirements
- Manual handling required
- Using Plant Equipment and able to lift 25kgs
- High frequency of on-site attendance at and around event infrastructure, particularly during the construction and build of event infrastructure
- This may involve walking on an uneven surface, wet or slippery surfaces, trailing cables, obstacles and climbing up and down ladders or rigging structures
- Medium to high exposure to moving objects, event construction materials, vibration and noise at the event site. Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks, high visibility vest, and working boots may be required on site for safety
- A safety Induction and OHS compliance for access to event/construction sites
