Role
Clyde Secondary College is seeking a skilled, reliable, and proactive individual to join our Facilities Maintenance team as a Handyman/Gardener. This multifaceted role ensures the school grounds, buildings, and facilities are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Hours would be 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. (School holiday attendance may be required).
Reports to: Facilities/ OHS Manager.
An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
Working Conditions:
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Occasional evening or weekend work for school functions or emergencies (Time in Lieu)
- School holiday attendance may be required (Time in Lieu).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience in general maintenance, facilities support, and gardening
- Understand and comply with OHS compliance
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Physically fit and able to lift/move equipment and perform outdoor work
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy with strong attention to detail
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially around children and staff.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
1. General Handyman Duties
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance (e.g., doors, windows, furniture, fixtures)
- Assemble furniture and equipment as needed
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and safety concerns.
2. Facilities Management
- Conduct regular inspections of school buildings and equipment
- Ensure classrooms, restrooms, and common areas are functional and safe
- Assist with setting up and dismantling for school events
- Monitor and manage maintenance supplies and tools.
3. Groundskeeping & Gardening
- Maintain school gardens, lawns, and outdoor areas (mowing, pruning, weeding)
- Ensure pathways, playgrounds, and entryways are clean and free of hazards
- Support seasonal landscaping and planting projects
- Spot cleaning.

Location Profile
Clyde Secondary College opened in January 2022. Our current enrolment is 1080 expected to grow substantially. 2026 will see the inclusion of Year 11, with Year 12 commencing in 2027.
