THE ROLE
The Enterprise Architect provides enterprise-wide leadership for the Department's digital and technology strategy, enterprise architecture, and future-state business and technology direction. Operating at the intersection of strategy, design, and delivery, the role translates departmental priorities, operating imperatives, and service needs into coherent technology vision, target-state architectures, strategic roadmaps, enterprise standards, and assured delivery across business, data, application, and technology domains.
As the Department's leading architecture specialist, the role connects strategic objectives and service needs to technology investment, capability development, and operating model, and ensures architectural decisions are practical, coherent, and aligned to whole-of-Victorian-government policy and frameworks. Through authoritative advice, constructive challenge, and architectural oversight, the role shapes major technology and transformation decisions, guiding the Department towards innovative, sustainable, and value-driven digital and technology outcomes.
The role works collaboratively across senior executives, business owners, frontline staff, program and solution architects, delivery teams, and external partners to influence direction, build trusted relationships, and drive the realisation of the Department's future-state architecture. In doing so, it strengthens long-term organisational capability, reduces technology and data risk, and contributes to broader whole-of-government architecture strategy and planning.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
Lead the development and ongoing evolution of the department's enterprise technology strategy, target-state architecture and strategic roadmaps, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities, service delivery needs and whole-of-government direction.
Establish enterprise architecture principles, standards and decision frameworks, and provide authoritative guidance on complex architectural decisions across business, data, application and technology domains.
Provide enterprise-wide architectural analysis and strategic advice to shape the department's technology portfolio, investment priorities and transition pathways, identifying opportunities to simplify, modernise and improve the technology estate.
Contribute to business cases, investment proposals and program design by balancing business value, delivery practicality, cost, risk, sustainability and long-term supportability.
Lead the department's enterprise architecture governance and assurance approach, including support to the Architecture Review Board, to ensure significant technology decisions receive appropriate architectural review and guidance.
