About the facility
Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.
About the Barwon Early Parenting Centre
Opened early this year, the Barwon Early Parenting Centre will provide specialist support and deliver flexible, targeted services for families with children 0-4 years old. The centre aims to enhance the parent-child relationship and support parents with strategies for achieving their parenting goals. These goals are often in areas such as sleep and settling, child behaviours, and parent and child health and wellbeing. These goals are achieved through structured programs that vary from residential, day stay and in-home support.

About the role
Early Parenting Practitioners (EPP) are key members of the clinical team. Under the delegation and supervision of the ANUM/AMUM or Maternal and Child Health Nurse they provide frontline care to families to assist in the establishment and maintenance of healthy parent-child relationships. The role assists parents and carers in learning to care for their young children and themselves as parents. This includes the establishment and maintenance of feeding, sleeping, rest, play and limit setting of behaviour, safety and hygiene.
All interventions are Under the delegation and supervision of the ANUM/AMUM or Maternal and Child Health Nurse and established on a sound understanding of the enduring nature of attachment relationships for the healthy development of children into adulthood.
The EPP establishes and maintains an effective supportive, safe and welcoming learning environment for children and their parents. In addition, they plan, organise, implement, guide and evaluate play and age appropriate learning experiences for young children, encouraging parents to participate.
We are looking for candidates with any of the following qualifications:
• Diploma level in Nursing
• Diploma level in Children’s Services
• Diploma level in Early Childhood Development Youth Work
• Degree in Psychology
• Degree in Social Work
