Transport Service is a Group within Department of Transport & Planning, and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.
About the role
This fixed term role is until 24th April 2026
Reporting to the Team Leader Operational Access Cl 1&3, the Engineer – Structural, sits within Operational Access and uses their structural engineering expertise and independent judgement to assess heavy vehicle applications.
The incumbent provides technical expertise and sound advice to support junior members of the team in relation to complex structural assessments.
The incumbent contributes to continuous improvement projects, as required, that would result in efficiencies in relation to Class 2 and other heavy vehicle assessment practices.
The incumbent will liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to gather and share information, including updates on application assessments, in a consultative manner.
Key Selection Criteria
The ideal candidate will demonstrate accomplished technical knowledge in assessing complex heavy vehicle operational access applications and determining asset performance requirements using various methodologies. They will apply strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, resolving issues through interpretation of guidelines or analytical judgement where none exist. A continuous improvement mindset is essential, with the ability to identify opportunities for innovation and drive efficiency. The role requires someone who actively supports capability development in others through knowledge sharing, feedback, and coaching. Strong project delivery skills are needed to define, coordinate, and monitor tasks to meet agreed outcomes. Effective stakeholder management is also critical, with a focus on adding value, building relationships, and constructively resolving issues.
