NHW is the major regional health service and specialist referral facility for Northeast Victoria. It serves a population of approximately 102,000, performs over 6,500 procedures a year and has over 19,000 inpatient episodes and 30,000 Emergency Department attendances a year and approximately 700 births per year. We have onsite radiology, pathology and blood bank service. NHW provides a wide range of acute specialist medical and surgical services, an emergency department, critical care unit (ICU, HDU, CCU), obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, specialised aged care, medical oncology services, community rehabilitation, inpatient, community, aged and psycho-geriatric mental health services.
NHW has recently completed a major redevelopment, including the building of a new emergency department, ICU, and expansion of medical and paediatric units. We are seeking to expand the Emergency Department Medical Workforce.
NHW is a growing regional service with 255 beds and is the major referral facility for the greater part of Northeast Victoria. Our Emergency Department sees an increasing number of presentations, with an average of 80-110 per day (>28,000 per year and growing). There is a wide variety of presentations including trauma and approximately 25% of our presentations are paediatrics.
The Emergency Department is supported by a broad range of inpatient specialties including Internal Medicine, Critical Care Unit (including ICU, HDU and CCU beds), General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Urology, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Geriatrics/Rehabilitation, Medical Oncology, and Mental Health services.
The service contributes to undergraduate and post-graduate medical education and to nursing and allied health education. University of Melbourne’s popular rural clinical school is located onsite its education facilities include a simulation lab and skills centre.
Our Senior Medical Staff comprises of FACEMS, FACRRMS, FRACGP all of whom have completed ACEM’s EMC, EMD or EMAD programs.

The Emergency Physician is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day clinical operation of the Emergency Department delivers effective and safe high-quality patient care and to assist with change management within the Emergency Department to achieve ongoing improvement and delivery of safe, consistent, responsive and high-quality services.
