The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Education Supervisor to provide a critical role within Corrections Victoria.
About the Business Unit
Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga Annex is a medium security facility that houses a mix of sentenced and remand men and is located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne. The role of the facility is to contain men in custody safely, securely and humanely, focusing on the individual needs of the men with the aim of providing a successful transition back into the community or on their continued journey through the prison system. The facility has a strong focus on achieving positive outcomes and provides a range of engaged services. Our highly skilled workforce provides supervision and case management and are dedicated to enhancing opportunities to strengthen prisoner pathways.
Corrections Victoria (CV) is responsible for the management and funding arrangements relating to the delivery of education and training in Victorian prisons. The Prisoner Employment Pathway Framework supports a whole of system integrated approach to education and training. The aim it so increase ex-prisoner employment prospects and access to other socio-economic opportunities which will ultimately contribute to a reduction in the rate at which ex-prisoners reoffend.
Corrections Victoria (CV)is responsible for the engagement of public TAFE providers to deliver a range of accredited education and training programs for prisoners, including courses such as adult basic education, hospitality, engineering, construction, horticulture. The range of vocational education and training offered within prisons is targeted to areas of skills shortage in the community, which provide ex-prisoners with better opportunities to gain meaningful employment upon release.
About the Role
The Education Supervisor will assist with the implementation of the Prisoner Employment Pathway Framework through a range of education and training related support, co-ordination and planning services for prisoners engaging in VET, on-the-job training, and distance education. They will service a location or multiple locations with a focus on the day-to-day operations of these locations. Understanding issues affecting the participation of prisoners in education and training is a core part of the role, and the Education Supervisor will provide leadership in addressing such issues.
