We are seeking a suitably qualified individual to assist our Facilities Team with the day to day facilities, grounds and maintenance operations of the College. This position fulfils an important role in the presentation and upkeep of our grounds and buildings and ensuring that OHS requirements are met to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our students, staff and community. The applicant should be able to operate in a professional and courteous manner when dealing with staff, contractors and students.
A current Working with Children Card (employee) is required.
Previous experience in general maintenance, handyman work or trade background is preferred but is not essential.
Grounds Management: Maintaining grass to an acceptable height, spray and removal of weeds and other vegetation around fences, trees and gardens. Trimming of shrubs and trees or mulching garden beds as required. Removal of debris to local waste disposal facility.
Equipment Maintenance: Checking and maintaining equipment within the work area to ensure it is in good working order, performing simple repairs, and reporting faults. Ensure the security of maintenance equipment and that storage and disposal of chemicals, flammable liquids and fuels are within the OHS guidelines and reinforce safety measures. Liaise with service providers where necessary. Understand and be familiar with the mechanics of electrical, heating, cooling, water tanks and pumps, plumbing (supply, waste, sewerage, fire)
Facilities maintenance: Undertake general maintenance across the school and ensure that all OHS requirements are met. Respond to service requests from staff for breakdowns and repairs and maintain records of such requests. Work through a schedule of regular tasks and maintenance audits as directed by the Technical Services Leader. Take a `hands on¿ role in performing daily maintenance tasks whenever required which may include removal of graffiti, emergency maintenance, attend to toilet and sink issues, cleaning and deliveries, clearing or unblocking debris from drains and pipes, fixing doors, gluing carpet tiles, replacing ceiling tiles, minor plaster/carpentry repairs, painting, pressure wash buildings and pathways, raking leaves and clearing pathways, attaching shelves to walls, assembly of furniture and other items, dispose of excess items at the local waste disposal facility.
Health & Safety: Work with the Workplace Health and Safety Manager to maintain OHS requirements. Wear suitable protective clothing whilst using machinery.
Other: Assist with the staging of school events as required (eg. School concert, sports days, exams, fundraising initiatives, EOY Awards, Senior and Middle school information nights) to ensure such matters as equipment and furniture relocation and facilities meet the needs of the school.
