Drouin Primary School has been an important part of the Drouin community since 1877. Our school sits proudly on Princes Way, the main thoroughfare through town, and continues to be a vibrant hub for local families and children. Located around 100 kilometres east of Melbourne, we serve a growing and diverse community, representing families from both the township and surrounding rural areas. Many parents commute daily to Melbourne for work, while others are deeply connected to the local community.
In recent years, our school has undergone a remarkable transformation through a major building project that has completely reshaped our learning environment. The new facilities include a modern administration building and staffroom, a full competition-sized gymnasium with a canteen, and a stunning new classroom block featuring 16 state-of-the-art learning spaces, music and performing arts rooms, withdrawal spaces, staff collaboration areas and flexible open learning zones.
Our campus now beautifully blends the new with the old. Alongside these modern buildings are our existing learning areas, including the art room, additional classrooms, several modular spaces, and our much-loved heritage building, which has been thoughtfully repurposed as our dedicated wellbeing hub.
Our grounds offer something for everyone! From large grassed play areas and multiple playgrounds (including inclusive and sensory spaces) to a central courtyard where students from all age groups come together to play and connect. We also have an undercover three-quarter basketball court, plus a full-sized outdoor court.
Enrolments for 2026 are approximately 480 students, with a Student Family Occupation (SFO) index of 0.4700. Our families represent a wide range of backgrounds, and we are proud to be a school that values inclusion, compassion, and connection.
Our specialist programs include Performing Arts, Physical Education, Science, Health, Library and Auslan, along with a variety of lunchtime activities, including an amazing cheer team, that bring our whole school together.
At the heart of Drouin Primary School is a passionate and professional team. Our staff are deeply committed to knowing their students, responding to their needs, and ensuring learning is engaging, challenging and meaningful. Our current staffing includes a Principal, 2 Assistant Principals, 21 classroom teachers, 6 specialist teachers, and learning specialists across literacy, numeracy, wellbeing and inclusion. The wellbeing of our students is supported by a chaplain and counsellor. Our administration team and 30 education support staff, including integration aides, administration officers, and a business manager, play a vital role in ensuring smooth operations and strong support for students.
In 2026, our 21 classes include three Foundation classes, five Grade 1/2 classes, six Grade 3/4 classes, and seven Grade 5/ 6 classes. Across all year levels, we are working together to strengthen consistency, build shared understandings of effective teaching practice, and develop a collective culture of professional learning and improvement.
Our families are a valued part of our community. We are fortunate to have an active and engaged School Council that provides strong leadership in areas such as finance, buildings and grounds, and fundraising. Parents also support classroom programs, our PMP program, sports days and excursions¿ all of which contribute to the warm, connected culture that defines Drouin Primary School.
As Drouin continues to grow, so too does our school. We are excited about the next phase of our improvement journey, one that will see us continue to build our collective capacity, strengthen our shared values, and ensure every child is known, supported, and inspired to thrive.
