An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
A role at this range may include:
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.

Rainbow P-12 College is a rural school, located in the northwest of Victoria. The area is a predominantly grain and sheep farming region.
Our purpose is to inspire our students and community to flourish by making a positive difference to every student¿s wellbeing, engagement and achievement. This has been accomplished by promoting and developing strong character, underpinned by a supportive and highly effective, school wide positive behaviour and education for all our students.

In 2025, the school has 109 students, spread evenly between the junior and senior sections of the school. Our students are from Rainbow and the surrounding districts. The school¿s socio-economic band value is low-medium. There were no ATSI students or international students. We do have 3 EAL students in 2025. We had 1.8% of students in out of home care.
The school has 33 equivalent fulltime staff comprising of 2 principal class, 12.7 teaching staff, 1.2 PTT (Permission to Teach),14.7 education support staff and 2.4 administrative staff. In 2025 we also have two staff member on extended sick leave and another on LSL. The school¿s Leadership Team* consisted of a principal, an assistant principal, one leading teacher and three learning specialists. In 2025 we did not have any ASTI staff at the school. (*Our leadership team was modified in term 4 2024 when 2 members went on maternity leave. We added a teacher & ES staff member to the leadership team. The AP position became an Acting shared position)
Rainbow P-12 College has the services of a Mental Health Practitioner for one day a week (shared with 3 other schools). The College employs a Wellbeing Co-ordinator who is responsible for breakfast club, lunchtime activities and student welfare. There are also student support co-ordinators (P-4, 5-8 & 9-12) that provide extra support to staff and students.
The school also has an ongoing partnership with Royal Far West (RFW) which is an external health care organisation that provides Speech, OT and psychology services to our junior students via telehealth. RFW also provides outreach services twice a year and support to build teacher and parent capacity.
The school offers a broad curriculum from Foundation to Year 12. Rainbow P-12 College provides specialist classes in Science, Music, Environmental Studies, Food technology and Digital Technology for all students from Foundation to Year 6. A range of subjects and elective programs are provided for students from Years 7 to 10 such as Design and Technology, Fishing, Agriculture, Business and Hands on Learning.
The school provides a wide range of senior secondary pathways including the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Vocational Major (VM), Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) Vocational Education and Training (VET), School Based Apprenticeships (SBAs) and Work Placement opportunities.
Rainbow P-12 College is an active member of the Southern Mallee Lakes Cluster for junior activities and sporting events. It is also a member of the Little Desert Region for both junior and senior sports.
The school also has excellent ties with the community. The school provides fortnightly Shake, Rattle and Read Literacy sessions for preschool families. The students have connections with many local community groups through school-related activities such as our Intergenerational program, tree planting at the Rainbow Lake and involvement in community projects via Hands On Learning.
