Are you passionate about your career in education?
Are you prepared to make a difference with our students and school?
If you answered "Yes" to these questions then we would be delighted to have you join our staff team at Harrisfield Primary School
Harrisfield Primary School is a South Eastern suburban primary school that was established in 1955. A wide diversity of cultures, socio-economic groups and languages characterise the school community. The school has a current enrolment of 250 with a staff of 18 teachers, one Business Manager, seven Integration Aides, a Health and Well-being Officer and additional staff (please see below)
The vast majority of students live in the local area but the community is constantly changing due to the transience of the population, public housing and a general movement from this area to the growth corridor suburbs beyond Dandenong. We find that we have higher numbers enrolled across the Prep-3 area of the school but many students transfer at the end of year 3 as their parents acquire permanent residency and become more established enabling them to purchase homes in other more affordable suburbs.
The diverse cultural and ethnic nature of the community presents special needs that are addressed by the staff during planning sessions and when reporting or evaluating programs and achievements. The majority of students were born in Australia but a high proportion have parents who were born overseas, and many of these students speak a language other than English at home.
The school has two purpose built Learning Houses which allow for flexibility in learning and teaching. The Students from years 1-2 are in one Learning House and Years 4-6 are in the other. Foundation students (Prep) are in their own area in the Administration building and in 2023 one year 3-4 class is in this building also. The school is an internationally accredited Professional Learning Community and teams work and plan collaboratively. Although students remain with their home-group teacher for all lessons other than specialists, it is an expectation that all teachers identify and plan for each child¿s next stage of learning and take responsibility for the education and well-being of all students in their Learning House. In 2024 the specialist programs offered are Visual Arts, Science and Physical Education (2 lessons to build fitness and skills). 2024 is also the year for the school production so students will participate in a Performing Arts program delivered by external providers and the performance will be held at the DRUM Theatre in Dandenong.
We have an Instructional Coach who works closely with all teachers to support and challenge them to further develop their capacity. Teachers at Harrisfield embrace the coaching program and welcome regular coaching opportunities.
Our aim at Harrisfield is to provide a comprehensive curriculum that endeavours to enhance our motto, Linking Home ~ Linking School. The whole community abides by a set of agreed values referred to as ACE, (Agreement, Communication and Equity) and the respective behaviours.
Harrisfield has a Student Welfare policy that addresses the needs of students and their families in the physical, emotional and social sense using a Restorative Practices approach. We work to bring students, teachers and parents together in the pursuit of emotional intelligence, considerate behaviour and a lasting sense of well-being. We believe that the development of positive relationships between all stakeholders is paramount to improved student well-being and we actively work to build a trusting and caring environment that encourages respectful attitudes and relationships.
The staff work at establishing a welcoming atmosphere that encourages parent visits to their well-resourced Learning Houses by providing opportunities for parents and carers to be involved in the students¿ education at a range of involvement levels.
The school has developed a Well-being hub which will house the:
